Amongst other things, the Health Directorate (Direction de la santé) is competent in all matters relating to disease prevention and medical and social monitoring in the event of illness.

AIDS, Infectious Hepatitis and Sexually Transmitted Diseases Monitoring Committee

The AIDS Monitoring Committee is responsible for:

  • Informing the general public, target groups and healthcare professionals about all matters concerning AIDS, infectious hepatitis and sexually transmitted infections;
  • Working closely with national and international organisations to develop and implement programmes to combat AIDS, infectious hepatitis and sexually transmitted diseases;
  • Giving its opinion on all public-health matters related to AIDS, infectious hepatitis and sexually transmitted diseases referred to it by the Minister;
  • Studying and proposing, on its own initiative, measures or improvements related to preventing and combating AIDS, infectious hepatitis and sexually transmitted diseases;
  • Coordinating the national HIV action plan.

The SNMI offers:

  • A free, anonymous, 24-hour, blood-sample screening service;
  • Specialist medical consultations with infectious disease specialists, for people living with HIV;
  • Consultations with nurses for information about HIV treatment and adherence to treatment;
  • Emergency treatment (PEP) following a high-risk situation;
  • Pre-exposure prophylaxis (PrEP) prescriptions and specialist consultations, before being exposed to a high-risk situation;
  • A significant contribution to research activities.

The Retrovirology Laboratory of the Luxembourg Institute of Health (LIH)

The Retrovirology Laboratory or the HIV Clinical and Translational Research group has been part of the LIH's Infection and Immunity Department (DII) since 2015. It provides specialist technical support for the clinical monitoring of patients, in collaboration with the SNMI, and conducts fundamental and applied research in the field of chronic viral infections.

Luxembourg Red Cross HIV Berodung

As a national public health stakeholder, our mission is to prevent new infections (hepatitis/STIs/HIV) and promote a living environment that meets the needs of those affected.

To that end, the HIV Berodung service provides:

  • condoms and lubricants, educational material and brochures;
  • interviews and personalised psychological, medical and social advice;
  • group information sessions;
  • training.

It has set up a hotline for anyone needing information about HIV:

LGBTQI + CIGALE Centre

The Centre promotes the visibility, non-discrimination and representativeness of LGBTIQ+ people in Luxembourg.

CIGALE is a professional service, contracted by the Ministry of Family Affairs, Integration and the Greater Region, which offers advice, a listening service and support to anyone with questions about their sexual orientation, gender or transgender identity, or coming. Its services are aimed at the LGBTIQ+ community (lesbian, gay, bisexual, trans, intersex, queer+), as well as anyone who is interested in sexual and gender diversity issues.

Stop Aids Now/Acces

Stop Aids Now/Acces is the result of the merger of two non-profit organisations: Stop Aids Now and Acces. While Stop Aids Now focuses on national AIDS prevention actions in Luxembourg, Acces is involved in international sustainable development actions, and more specifically in Sub-Saharan African countries:
