Drowning
It only takes a few seconds of inattention for someone to drown!
Prevention
- Do not take your eyes off your children if they are in a swimming pool or close to a pond or body of water.
- Never leave a young child alone in a bath, even with only 20 cm of water.
- Teach your children to swim as early as possible.
- Ensure bodies of water or swimming pools have appropriate, effective protection (fences, nets, tarpaulins, alarms, etc.).
First aid
If the victim is still conscious and breathing normally:
- remove wet clothing and cover the victim with a blanket,
- put them in a semi-seated position and monitor their general condition until the emergency services arrive.
The semi-seated position is a position in which the victim is sitting and leaning against a support. This position allows the victim to relax, while keeping their airways clear.
