Invasive Haemophilus influenzae type b infections

Hib is a bacterium that causes type B meningitis, epiglottitis (swelling of the epiglottis with risk of suffocation) and certain types of arthritis (joint infection). The bacterium is transmitted through coughing and sneezing (airborne).

Vaccination provides complete and long-lasting protection against diseases caused by Hib.

However, vaccination does not protect against meningitis or arthritis caused by other bacteria or viruses.

Vaccination schedule

  • Vaccination: 2 months, 4 months, 11 months

The vaccine (Hib) is injectable and is most often administered in combination with vaccines against diphtheria, tetanus, whooping cough, Hib, polio and hepatitis B (D, T, aP, Hib, IPV, HepB).

The vaccination schedule consists of 3 injections (at 2 months, 4 months, 11 months).
